From The Street…Questions & Comments On Barter
October 10th, 2007 · by Bob Meyer · 1 CommentWe are introducng a new category to our blog, “From The Street” we hope you find interesting as well as helpful…
Here are comments from companies out in the trenches—the impartial real world—that you and I deal in, day in and day out. The marketplace always tells a story, here is the feed back we (BarterNews) have recently received.
From a CFO Of A Cable TV Network…
“Hi Bob,
I’m a small (one million subscribers) language cable TV network looking to barter unsold avails (20 hours per month) for goods and services. Any ideas? We’re seen in the following DMA’s: LA, NY, Houston, Chicago, Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix, San Diego, Denver, Washington DC, Toledo and Dayton.”
From The CEO/President Of An Import Company
“Hi Bob,
I couldn’t find anything on this subject on your site. Do you know how I would buy a particular barter currency either with cash or other currency? I have a special one-time reason for buying and I thought there were people around that actually traded in various currencies and I thought you might know them. Thanks for your help on this.”
From An Entrepreneur in Denver…
“Thank you Bob for the FastStart Barter Program. I recently started a business and needed everything. After receiving the course I have bartered for a website, printing and a telemarketing company. I also have bartered for delicious meals in a local restaurant. I have only scratched the surface for all the possibilities available to me. Thanks again Bob!”
From A Sign Company in New Jersey…
“Do you know anything about Merchant’s Barter in New Jersey? I have been a member, and struggling, for many years to spend my accumulated barter dollars. Now I cannot get anyone by email or phone. Do you know if they have disappeared?”
Importer Of Housewares & Gift Items Wants To Barter Overstock Goods…
“I have enjoyed reading your newsletter and figured if there is anyone that could help give us some direction re barter, you would be the man!
We are an importer that primarily sells to the mail order catalog industry. We often have anywhere from 500 to 50,000 of various housewares and gift items left when one of our catalog customers discontinue running it.
We belong to a small barter group up here in Canada that wasn’t of help, but ws wondering if you had any suggestions of U.S. groups that can help us liquidate this stock. We need room in our LA warehouse and have many trailer loads we have to move asap. Any suggestions?”
Unidentified Sender Requests Information…
“Hi, Is there anyway you can provide me with a copy of EITF 93-11?”
Photography Studio In Iowa Sold On Barter But Needs Assistance…
“I have had some experience on a small scale with barter (trading my advertising photography for time at several dude ranches). This has been an extremely fun and successful idea, and I can only imagine there must be many more similar opportunities out there.
“This win-win idea was something I thought up long before I knew companies like yours even existed. So I’m sold on barter, but I’m wondering if there is a place for a micro-business like mine to get into serious bartering? Lately, I’ve been very deeply involved with commercial architectural imaging, and really enjoy that.
“Your company and the many options online are a bit overwhelming. Is a small mom and pop business like mine of value in the barter industry? Is so, show me how. Barter seems like the perfect “alternative currency” to develop in these shaky times for the American Dollar.”
Newspaper In Texas Wants To Explore Barter Opportunities…
“I work for a newspaper in Texas and I’m wanting to explore trading advertising space for some travel packages. What company should I be talking to? Any help would be appreciated.”

Hey Bob,
Sorry if I couldn’t get your form to work right, there seems to be a glitch in the form.
I think your “From the Streets” section is great, you may want to have a sub-title underneath the main title to let ‘us’ morons know that it is a “Hodge Podge” of all sorts of stuff.
All the people that posted there sure screwed up without giving others a way to respond to them. I can’t say I have anything to barter with but I might know someone, or could barter a little “brain-storming” for them, like the people from LA needing to liquidate semi-loads of product, my brother-in-law deals with vendors at swap meets all over. They could email me to get a hold of him. azmike@gmail.com
The newspaper outfit in Texas looking to barter ad space for travel packages, do they have a local Travel Agency? Give them a call, find out if they are interested in a swap. Or maybe one of the larger online travel outfits that accept affiliates in their programs.
The cable outfit might use their leftover space as a HUGE tax right off by donating it to a local charity to help raise awareness or funds. Maybe trade it with their CPA for their services. …. go through the yellow pages and pick out the businesses with Full Page ads, they already either have a ton of money to waste or they know the value of advertising, they are your market. How about using those 20 hours as a JV platform, I read Jay Abraham’s “Getting Everything You Can Out of All That You Got” a few years ago, I am sure it is still full of viable info.
According to the one poster Bob’s program is a great asset, I have not seen it yet but I will probably be ordering it myself.
